COGNITIVE
ENHANCEMENT THERAPY (CET) is an evidenced based treatment program designed for individuals with
mental illnesses or other cognitive impairments. CET addresses problems of:
· neuro-cognition (thinking problems)
· social cognition (the
ability to act wisely in social situations).
CET
is “Physical Therapy for the Brain.”
THE
CET LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
CET is a 15 month,
highly structured treatment program. During weekly sessions, CET participants use computer exercises to improve their attention,
memory and problem solving skills. In addition to the computer exercises there
is a psycho-educational (psychotherapy) group that provides opportunities to learn about cognitive flexibility, perspective
taking, medication, coping with stigma, and adjusting to disability.
PLAN can help others benefit from CET
in several ways:
· PLAN can contract to provide CET to other organizations throughout Northeast Ohio
· PLAN can contract to train treatment staff to learn CET methodology in long distance
learning situations.
