How can PLAN help me and my family?
Living with a mental illness
can be difficult. PLAN has an experienced staff of professional social workers
who will get to know you, your needs, wants, and dreams. Together you and the
social worker can develop a map to help you move towards your goals. A PLAN social
worker can also educate you and help you to navigate other programs, benefits and services that might be useful. PLAN can be there for you as your family supports change; as parents age and siblings move out of town.
Do I need to participate in all of PLAN’s programs?
Every PLAN member meets
with their PLAN social worker on a regular basis. Meeting together helps to develop
this relationship and helps to insure that assistance will be available now and in the future.
Other PLAN programs and services are optional and each PLAN member can pick and choose those programs that will most
benefit them.
What if I want to continue seeing my current psychiatrist or therapist?
PLAN does not require
that anyone discontinue a service that you find helpful. PLAN wants to add to
what’s already in place, to build upon what is working.
Can I afford PLAN services?
PLAN services and programs
are affordable to many people and their families. Typically the first year of
membership is the most expensive year, as you get acquainted with your Family Advocate (social worker) and he/she gets to
know your needs. The frequency of services is determined jointly by the member,
their family and the recommendation of the PLAN Family Advocate. Initially PLAN
members are seen weekly to get to know the member’s needs. Over time, the
frequency may be less, but PLAN requires a visit at a minimum of every 3 weeks.
Does PLAN offer a sliding fee scale?
No, PLAN does not
offer a sliding fee scale.
How is PLAN funded?
PLAN receives approximately
60% of its funding from fees paid for services. The remainder is raised through
contributions and grants. PLAN is not funded by governmental tax dollars by choice.
How
is PLAN governed?
PLAN is a private, nonprofit
501C3 organization governed by a Board of Trustees. The Board is elected by the
membership and serve up to two, three year terms.
